MTA Subway Time App Reviews

You would think...

...that an app from the ACTUAL MTA would after all this time have info for most, if not all lines in the system. Those of you served by the lines listed have some nerve telling us who apparently arent privileged enough to have route information that our complaints are invalid! No, its a valid complaint to have for an app of this type, and anyone who implies otherwise is just a short-sighted, selfish jerk with no empathy or standards. There are third party apps that cover the entire system, or at least more than the MTAs OWN APP, and that is pathetic. I have their LIRR app and that covers all lines and stops, so dont tell me that they cant do it here. As usual, another poor showing by the MTA. Thanks again, Albany!

Horrible UI

I downloaded this application as I live in Manhattan. This application has a horrible user interface and is difficult to use. When you select a train you want it should be smart enough to know where you currently are and scroll down to the closest station to your location, not require you to scroll ALL the way down and select it. Also, when you finally have a train selected, you cannot tell which train is going uptown and which is going downtown!! This has to be clearly marked. I am disappointed the L train is not listed even though it already has electronic displays in the subway which tells you when the next L train is arriving. The MTA even said themselves on TV that this is what they needed to have in place for it to work with their iOS app and they dont have it working! In the app it says "Subway Time is our countdown clock app. Only subway lines that presently have clocks are featured." Well, if this were true, you would have the L train. What the MTA should do is equip each and every train with a GPS. When that train is passing through a station it is read and its location is transmitted. If you have to wait for the MTA to install electronic displays in each and every station in NYC, it will take 10+ years. I guess the MTA forgot that they have A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, Q, and R trains. To offer so few trains is rediculous. Shows the MTAs money hard at work!

Deleted...

Service info and a complete list of lines would be nice... Cause without those things, this is a waste of time. The LIRR app works great. No excuse here except that you have unexpected problems more than you want people to know. Other cities have WAY better subway apps.

Whats holding up the MTA?

I see it hasnt been updated since 2014... Please do it!!!!!!!!!!!! It can be 5 star with all the lines duplicating what is already here.

Great app

Some of the comments here are ridiculous; Complaining that they have to scroll to where their location is and not being able to tell uptown from downtown trains. Use your brain and stop being lazy. Being a native NYCer, I love and appreciate this app.

App Not Complete

Does not provided accurate information for all subway stations. Is especially sketchy on the weekends. Reported he train would arrive in 8 minutes. When it reached 1 minute it cycled back to 8 minutes.

MTA train app

My question is why make a NYC subway app and only give info on a few lines When they produced this app they should have used all the lines What good is an app with only 8 out of 34 subway lines Just my opinion

Works Fine

The app works as promised

Very helpful

This is a must have if you take the train. Deducted 1 star because it is missing a number of subway lines.

Love it

Have been using it for a few years now its my go to

Not user friendly. An app must first simplify life in an easy and enjoyable way AND never make a creative feel frustrated

Not working just like their subways

No tikes are showing up, completely useless

Awesome!

If it s essential , mta absolutely provides it ! In mta we trust

Horrible

App is typically horrible for MTA. Has only a few subway lines. Doesnt allow favorite stations to be saved. Updates are delayed compared to arrival times displayed in station. Visual design is inconsistent with other MTA apps with unattractive, misplaced buttons for navigation. Version number constantly displayed in a different type face at the bottom of the screen is indicative of the thoughtless design behind this app. Removed immediately after first use.

Great for what it is

Of course this only covers the lines with electronic train arrival (numbered & L) because where else would it get the data? Duh. Its useful for when youre heading to the train above ground and would like to know if you have time to get a coffee (in the morning) or stay for another beer (late night) without going into the station and looking at the electronic signs. Not as pretty as MNR app but is actually more functional in that its a hell of a lot faster to see if a train is coming. Five stars if it wasnt currently broken with runtime errors on the server its accessing :-(

Error Message

I keep getting an error message when trying to use it for the last 2 day. It says its a runtime error. I dont know if this is due to the last update. Up until this point it worked fairly well.

Hasnt worked for days

When I open the app, I get server connection errors. I reinstalled and other stuff, and it still will not work.

Mostly good

The app is a bit flaky at times. However, today when I checked it, I was able to sprint two blocks up broadway and catch a 1 train just as it arrived, saving me 10 minutes! Sweet!

No train time

Love the application. But its has problems now. No times for the trains are working
